Strategy Groups

The ULC Executive Board has created Strategy Groups in four major areas of program focus and help shape ULC’s programming. ULC has chosen to work in a limited number of arenas – arenas in which members have a particular concern, and it is felt ULC can have a substantial impact, or arenas in which the urban facets of issues or opportunities could be strengthened. The values and customs of ULC, our Guiding Principles, are reflected in the work of these areas of focus.

Capacity Building Strategy Group

Charge: To develop and recommend to the ULC Executive Board strategies, projects, and activities which:

  • Strengthen the skills and expand understandings of library directors and trustees.
  • Develop new leaders for urban public libraries.
  • Address challenges and opportunities library leaders must confront due to changes in the environments of urban libraries, including, but not limited to, the changing nature of library work and workers, redefining library roles in a dot-com (i.e. digital) world, and serving diverse communities.
