Ad Agency Boot Camp
Anythink Libraries, Colo.
Innovation Synopsis
Ad Agency Boot Camp provided a platform for people to use the library to develop 21st-century agency and marketing skills with real use-case examples. This eight-week course met on Saturdays to produce high-quality agency work for a local nonprofit, providing participants with contemporary workforce relevant skills.
Challenge/Opportunity
The Studio at Anythink is equipped with tools like Adobe Creative Suite and videography equipment. Thinking beyond introductory programs or one-on-one support, it became clear that there was a need for more formal, long-term learning opportunities. Having published work to include in a portfolio is a valuable asset for job seekers. To help assist community members in developing skills and a portfolio, Anythink wanted to provide a learning platform that used real use-case examples for use in job interviews.
Key Elements of Innovation
To facilitate Ad Agency Boot Camp, Anythink partnered with an agency expert to lead eight Saturday sessions. Anythink also connected with a local nonprofit, Food for Hope, that was in need of marketing help. By working directly with the expert, participants honed their skills to develop deliverables including logos, commercials and a social media campaign. The created an opportunity for individuals to learn a skill set and advance their careers while reducing the time and cost barriers of a more formal academic setting.
Achieved Outcomes
Each participant was surveyed about their experience, and staff continued follow-up with select participants after their completion of the series. All participants reported a positive experience, and at least one reported receiving a promotion at their current place of employment due to the skills they acquired in Ad Agency Boot Camp. Food for Hope continues to use the logos, commercials and other marketing materials created by the participants for marketing their organization.
