With requests to add local material, the Arizona Local Authors Collection was launched to give the community and its talented writers a format to feature their work. Guidelines were created and Arizona residents of all ages are encouraged to submit their books, CDs and DVDs for consideration.

The submitting author, musician or filmmaker must be a current resident of Arizona and is notified by email within 60 days of their submission. Materials that are accepted and added to the collection are subject to the same standards as other library materials. The annual book sale was later offered as a way for the community to connect with this local talent.

This collection has grown to over 800 authors writing all genres of fiction, nonfiction, young adult and children’s books. These items are checked out often and enjoyed throughout the community. In appreciation for this collection, writers are invited to participate in an annual sale where three of them have their names drawn and are featured in one of the library’s eNewsletters. This year, over 100 authors and 800 people attended the event.
