Direct Print and Mail Services
Anythink Libraries, Colo.
Innovation Synopsis
Providing access to printing services is a vital resource provided by libraries. By directly printing and mailing documents for community members, Anythink was able to innovate one of its key services amid COVID-19 closures.
Challenge/Opportunity
In March 2020, a stay-at-home mandate was issued for Colorado closing libraries across the state. During this time, Anythink sought the opportunity to adapt some of its most essential services for the public. With the rise in unemployment claims and the shift to remote learning for students, it was clear that the need for printing access was in demand for adults and students alike.
Key Elements of Innovation
Anythink offered to remotely print and mail documents for anyone in the community. To do this, individuals and teachers were encouraged to reach out via email with their documents. After printing, Anythink staff mailed documents back to individuals or to the recipient of their choice at no cost. Additionally, the library partnered with Rocky Mountain PBS to serve as a printing hub for parents and teachers involved with at-home learning so that important worksheets could be provided to students across the county.
Achieved Outcomes
This service immediately became popular throughout Adams County, with other agencies sharing our online promotions. In the first four months, Anythink received 181 requests that resulted in 7,961 pages printed for community members. While the library saw a wide range in the type of printing requests, the bulk of documents printed were related to financial assistance or educational needs. The service was appreciated by community members, who frequently expressed gratitude for this access.
