The renovation of Main Library increased the space for our youth collection from 1,500 sq. ft to 4,380 sq. ft. This allowed us to not only showcase our youth collection, but to create an area where all ages can be makers and creators of new ideas. The hands-on learning environment will make the library a destination for not only books, but experiential learning opportunities. Adult-child interactions increase learning outcomes. This is a place where kids can pursue informal learning opportunities with their caregivers.

The FEA includes:

• Space for story time and a playscape for children and caregivers to enjoy together
• A STEM area with activities to explore
• A dedicated teen space for collaboration
• An all-ages DIY space featuring video/sound recording and editing, sewing machines, and a 3D printer.

Our goal for FEA is to provide the space and tools for families to explore and learn together. Our staff will support families learning together both through planned programs and informal encounters.

The grand opening was celebrated enthusiastically by local families and groups. The area continues to be well utilized, even as library renovation continues. Staff is connecting with the community as they use the space and developing programs and resources to meet their needs. As we support families in their learning, we learn from them as well. We are excited to have this space and resources to attract and connect with our community, and the flexibility to allow us to evolve as we better understand their needs.
