Libraries are facing IF challenges on a wide range of issues, not just with physical materials like books, music & movies, but also with programs, e-content, Internet access, room bookings & exhibits. IF challenges can limit access to information, suppress civic engagement & silence voices, especially those of marginalized communities. It is the issue of our time for libraries. Building on the advocacy work done by other libraries, TPL can use its reach & profile to promote and defend IF, a vital ingredient for democracy.

Multi-pronged advocacy and PR program that taps into growing concern about IF issues; leverages & amplifies advocacy work of other libraries. TPL IF initiatives promoted: Joining the Book Sanctuary Movement; creating & promoting a Book Sanctuary Collection incl. a permanent, always available Book Sanctuary Reference Collection + a highly visible display to provide photo opps & generate public interest; creating an innovative IF-focused program series, with new ways to engage audiences & connect people, places & ideas.
