Challenge/Opportunity

Starting your own business can be a daunting task — especially for anyone that hasn't had access to traditional education paths or business opportunities. Through online training, recommended reading lists, databases, one-on-one help and more, NPL helps people take the initial steps needed to succeed as an entrepreneur.

Key Elements of Innovation

NPL Means Business offers access to a full online training course from Ice House at no cost to library card holders. What would typically cost at least $200 is free to NPL members. NPL also offers unlimited access to research databases; local, state and national partnerships who can provide additional training and recommendations; and one-on-one assistance with a librarian to help entrepreneurs take the next step in their business.

Achieved Outcomes

We anticipate that NPL Means Business, which launched in late 2021, will continue to improve and aid in entrepreneurial efforts in Nashville. Nashville currently serves as a hub and home for innovative thinkers and to be able to provide additional resources to the city's powerful members is important.
