Prince George's County Memorial Library System

Advocacy & Awareness | 2021

Innovation Synopsis

PGCMLS and 7News DC anchor Adrianna Hopkins produce a weekly video series called PGCMLS This Week. The videos showcase the library's diverse resources, services, and programs in a friendly and accessible format. Adrianna is a trusted local celebrity and volunteers her time to support the Library's mission. The series is produced by Nestor Diaz.

Challenge/Opportunity

During the pandemic, PGCMLS significantly expanded its digital marketing, which is the most effective use of limited funding resources for reaching the broadest possible audience. As part of the multi-channel and influencer strategy, the library's PR/Marketing team sought ways to expand marketing impact through in-kind partnerships with key local organizations and influencers. Because we serve customers at every stage of their lives, new ways of communicating services are essential to effective long-term engagement.

Key Elements of Innovation

The library produces a weekly video featuring Adrianna Hopkins as host. Each video has a temporal or campaign-based theme, ranging from Juneteenth and Phase 2 reopening operations to a weekly overview of the diverse programs the Library offers across age groups. Donna-Scott Martin (media relations specialist) developed the PGCMLS This Week series and engaged Adrianna Hopkins. marketing specialist Nestor Diaz directs the series, including script development, videography/editing and content strategy.

Achieved Outcomes

PGCMLS This Week has had a tremendous positive impact on the community's awareness of the Library's services and programs. Adrianna's role as a trusted broadcast journalist in our region attracts attention from community members who are not already library customers. In addition to directly leading to increased online resource usage and program attendance, Adrianna's segments generate excitement about the library through 7News DC, social media and PGCMLS platforms. This demonstrates our ongoing value to the community.
