Innovation Synopsis
A new Intranet was launched in January 2021 which serves as a communication portal and learning platform for all VPL staff.
Challenge/Opportunity
VPL is committed to simplifying communication of and access to accurate and relevant organizational information. It’s also aiming to meet a demand for training opportunities and smooth communication from a staff survey.
Key Elements of Innovation
- A web portal providing access to organizational resources
- A learning platform offering courses developed in-house
- A document repository
- Integrated access to commonly used cloud-based software and storage
- A secured site providing online forms and features that automate various internal workflows
- A Managers On-site calendar for staff to easily locate management support
- Developed in-house using PHP, WordPress and LearnDash
- A slideshow of frontline advocacy reminding staff to promote programs and services
Achieved Outcomes
- Set up as the default home page in web browsers at all staff computers which provides a single-entry point at the beginning of each staff shift
- Multiple training sessions presented to staff prior to the launch
- 159 articles published, 29,380 email notices sent to staff about the new posts and 20,074 of them were opened and viewed since the launch
- 25 courses created, 1,282 enrollments of courses/staff and 998 have completed
